SALA BOLOGNESE  Travel Guide

Sala Bolognese is a municipality of 8.361 inhabitants in the province of Bologna. Its origins date back to the Villanovan period, as evidenced by some findings made in the area, but probably the first stable settlements are due to the Romans, as demonstrated by the subdivision of the territory in centuriation, still visible in part. During the medieval period the village takes the name of Sala, word of Longobard origins, which means the lord's house; and in fact in the XI century the noble Sala family settled here, which allied with the Countess Matilde di Canossa during the struggles for the territory with the city of Parma. From the second half of the fifteenth century, Sala becomes part of the territory of Bologna. The peculiarity of Sala is the lack of a historical center: this is due to the fact that the castle, after falling into ruin, has never been rebuilt, since the boundary with the territory of Modena had in the meantime been moved.

what to see and what to do in SALA BOLOGNESE

Worth a visit the Pieve of Santa Maria Annunziata and San Biagio, from the 11th century: it is one of the most beautiful examples of Lombard-Romanesque architecture in the province of Bologna. Interesting Palazzo Zambeccari, dating back to the sixteenth century, characterized by four square-shaped corner towers; inside you can still see part of the fresco decoration.
For all lovers of sports cars and motorcycles, the Motor Valley has now become a real place of worship, with its fantastic streets full of curves from which you can admire breathtaking views. With 9 museums, 21 collections, 7 construction companies, 5 racetracks and 11 go-kart tracks, this is really the ideal place for those who want to spend a fun weekend! It is worth getting to Maranello to visit the Ferrari Museum, where the official exhibition of the company is located (while the Enzo Ferrari Museum is located in Modena). The Museum is divided into four thematic areas: the Granturismo world, the Formula Uno, the Sport Cars and Sport-Prototype cars, which allow you to really get to know the world of the Cavallino Rosso. Obviously on display are the numerous racing cars of the World Champions, from 1999 to 2008, but also the original trophies and helmets of the pilots. In addition to cars, in the Ferrari Museum there are also semiprofessional simulators, which allow visitors to experience the sensations felt on the track. For those who still do not have enough, you can also book a visit to the Factory.

EVENTS AND FAIRS

Various events take place in Sala Bolognese during the year: the second half of May there is the Festival of Tortelloni and Grilled Meat: the opportunity to rediscover the territory thanks to interesting guided tours, as well as a flea market at the many stands of typical products; the last day a fireworks show is organized; the first half of June there is the Fair, this year at the 30th edition, with food and wine stands and local crafts, shows, live music and a fireworks show to conclude the festivities. In mid-November there is the Summer of San Martino, the perfect opportunity to rediscover the ancient flavors of tradition, with products based on chestnuts and pumpkins, but also a lot of grilled meat as well as delicious crescentine and fried raviole, all accompanied by a nice glass of wine!
