CREVALCORE | Bologna
CREVALCORE Travel Guide & Hotels
Crevalcore is a town of 13.544 inhabitants in the province of Bologna. The origins of his name are very uncertain, as well as those of the city; probably the first castle of Crevalcore was built in 1130 by the city of Bologna, which was conquering the whole area; in 1219 the castle was destroyed during the war with Federico II. The Bolognesi rebuilt it in the current position, even if, given its proximity to the city of Modena, Crevalcore did not have a quiet history but rather was the scene of continuous struggles and political turnover.
what to see and what to do in CREVALCORE
Walking through Crevalcore you can still see the ancient structure of the square-shaped castrum with the main buildings that give onto the course. Unfortunately, many buildings suffered damage during the 2012 earthquake, such as the Theatre and the Palazzo Comunale, which was transferred to the library. Special features of the area are the many noble villas scattered throughout the countryside, called "castles": the most famous is Villa Ronchi, built in the 16th century and which also includes a beautiful 18th-century church; but also worth visiting the Castle of Palata Pepoli, from the 16th century, and the Torre della Guisa, particular for having two orders of ledges and an 18th-century oratory. A little curiosity: in Crevalcore there is the smallest puppet museum in the world, the Leo Preti Civic Museum; despite its size, inside is kept a beautiful collection of about one hundred puppets.
Recently the Municipalities of the Terre d'Acqua, and among these also Crevalcore, have joined a plan to enhance the territory, creating a network of paths to cross on foot or by bicycle, which allow the tourists to visit the Emilian countryside and admire special features of the territory, as can be churches, castles or historic buildings.
In Crevalcore, however, there are not only walks, because not far away there is the museum of one of the most famous motor homes in the world: the Modena Museum, named after Enzo Ferrari, which is located in the house of the famous maker, expanded to accommodate many cars as well as an interactive system that allows you to relive the history of Ferrari, from the beginning to today. For the most passionate, in addition, in what was once the workshop of the father of Enzo Ferrari, a permanent exhibition was also set up, focused on the engines of the Ferraris, the real "heart" of this fantastic car.
