MINERBIO Travel Guide

Minerbio is a municipality of 8.770 inhabitants in the province of Bologna.

The origins of the village date back to Roman times, as evidenced by its name, which seems to derive from that of the goddess Minerva, given that here once stood a temple dedicated to her.

The first official document that speaks of Minerbio dates back to 1231, when the Podestà of Bologna gave 150 Mantuan families this territory.

In 1300 the noble Isolani family settled in Minerbio, originally from Cyprus, to whom we owe the construction of the Church of San Giovanni Battista, which was later defined as one of the most beautiful in the area.

In 1403 the Visconti family extended their possessions to include Minerbio.

what to see and what to do in MINERBIO

To be visited :

Walking through Minerbio you can still see its Roman structure, with the parallel streets typical of the castrum, while the medieval structure is still visible in the gateway of the village, with the tower, renovated in 1800. The Church of San Giovanni Battista, of the end of 1300, is very beautiful; inside it you can see the interesting sculpture of "Gloria" by Giuseppe Mazza.
The Rocca Isolani is worth a visit, with interesting frescoes and its beautiful dovecote, recently restored
The Castello dei Manzoli, in Soverzano, dating back to the 1400s, built around the ancient Torre degli Ariosti, from the 13th century. Although it was a noble family house, the defensive aspects are evident, such as the towers, the crenellated walls and the large internal courtyard.

Very interesting the Museum of Industrial Heritage, set up in an old brick furnace of the second half of the 1800s. The exhibition is composed of five sections, where you can admire scientific instruments, silk production machinery, from the most ancients, driven by the power of water, to modern mechanical and mechatronic ones. Obviously, given the setting, one of the sections is dedicated to the processing of the furnace, such as the production of bricks.

EVENTS AND FAIRS

There are various events taking place in Minerbio: the first of July there is the Band Festival that takes place the same days of the Tagliatella Festival, an opportunity for fans to listen to the Band of Minerbio, maybe enjoying a nice plate of tagliatelle! At the end of October, during the Fair of San Martino dei Manzoli, in Soverzano, you can attend historical re-enactments and falconry shows, all accompanied by live music and stands of typical products.
