BOLOGNA HALL - Bologna

Guide to BOLOGNA HALL

Bolognese Hall is a municipality of 8,361 inhabitants in the province of Bologna.

Its origins date back to the Villanovan period, as some findings in the area attest, but the first permanent settlements probably date back to the Romans, as evidenced by the division of the territory into centuriation, still partially visible today.

During the medieval period, the town took the name of Sala, a word of Lombard origin meaning the residence of the lord; and indeed, in the 11th century, the noble Sala family settled here and allied with Countess Matilda of Canossa during the territorial disputes with the city of Parma.

From the second half of the 15th century, Sala becomes part of the territory of Bologna.

A peculiarity of Sala is the absence of a historic center: this is due to the fact that the castle, after falling into ruins, was never rebuilt, as the border with the territory of Modena had meanwhile been moved.

WHAT TO SEE AND WHAT TO DO IN SALA BOLOGNA

The Pieve of Santa Maria Annunziata and San Biagio, dating back to the 11th century, is worth a visit: it is one of the most beautiful examples of Lombard Romanesque architecture in the province of Bologna. The Zambeccari Palace, dating back to the 16th century, is noteworthy for its four square-plan corner towers; inside, it is still possible to see part of the fresco decoration.
For all those who love sports cars and motorcycles, the Motor Valley has become a true place of worship, with its fantastic roads full of curves from which breathtaking views can be admired. With 9 museums, 21 collections, 7 manufacturers, 5 race tracks and 11 kart tracks, this is truly the ideal place for those who want to spend a weekend in the name of fun! It's worth going to Maranello to visit the Ferrari Museum, where the official company exhibition is located (while the Enzo Ferrari Museum is in Modena). The Museum is divided into four thematic areas: the Gran Turismo world, Formula One, Sport and Sport-Prototype cars, which allow visitors to really experience the world of the Red Horse at 360 degrees. Of course, on display are the numerous single-seater race cars of World Champions from 1999 to 2008, as well as the original trophies and helmets of the drivers. In addition to the cars, the Ferrari Museum also features semi-professional simulators, which allow visitors to experience the sensations of being on the track. For those who still do not have enough, it is also possible to book a visit to the Factory.

FAIRS AND EVENTS

Various events take place in Sala Bolognese throughout the year: in the second half of May, there is the Festival of Tortellone and Grilled Meat, an opportunity to rediscover the territory through interesting guided tours, as well as a market and many stands of typical products; on the last day, a fireworks display is organized; in the first half of June, there is the Fair, this year at its 30th edition, with enogastronomic and local craft stands, shows, live music, and a pyrotechnic display to conclude the celebrations. In mid-November, there is the San Martino Summer, the perfect occasion to rediscover the ancient flavors of tradition, with products based on chestnuts and pumpkins, but also plenty of meat cooked over an open fire, as well as delicious crescentine and fried ravioli, all accompanied by a nice glass of wine.
